Conversions played a vital part in supermarine ladies first game of the season when the ladies travelled to Olney with a team which included a number of new players. In the first half marine used the wind to run in 2 tries 1 for Steph Watts and Libby Jones playing her debut, 1 converted by Natalie Williams. Towards the end of the first half Olney managed to draw level with tries but were unable to convert them. In the second half marine were playing into the wind and were for most of the match camped in there own 22 but through excellent defending from the backs were able to score 1 unconverted try. Through perseverance marine scored a breakaway try by Alisa 'Welshie' Cullen, which also converted ment marine won 15-19. It was a hard match for both sides and unfortunatley marine lost star player Sammy Way with a broken wrist.
It was a good start to the season for marine who have alot of new players and a number of players who for parts had to play out of position.
It was a rocky but triumphant start to Supermarine Ladies season with a 7 point victory this Sunday.
Supermarine made a confident start, with Natalie Williams crossing the line within the first twenty minutes and Hayley Coles doing the same shortly
afterwards – with a Williams conversion to follow. However, Cullompton came back strongly and after a period of sustained pressure, crossed over the
line for an unconverted try just before the end of the first half.
The second half led to a number of injuries for both teams, and a 10 minute sending off for one of the Cullompton Ladies.
The pack took advantage of being one player up and set up the perfect position for Zoe Walsh to score a third try for Marine.
The pressure did not cease however and Cullompton came back with their own unconverted try shortly before the final whistle.
Coach Paul Stewart felt “the game was a scrappy start to the season but there were some excellent phases of play and some great tries.
An excellent start to build upon.”
It was a hard game this Sunday, with a lot of hard tackles and good mauling from both sides.
The forwards held strong against good opposition, keeping their team on the front foot and allowing the backs to play a fast-paced, running game.
By half time Supermarine were four tries up and were looking to extend their lead for a bonus point, and avoid conceding any tries from the opposition.
They managed to achieve both by the final whistle with a total of eight tries being scored and maintaining a strong defensive line.
Captain Zoe Walsh said after the game “I’m extremely pleased with the result. Everyone worked really well as a team.
The new players are settling in really well and scoring tries.”

Old Redcliffians vs Supermarine 0-39
It was another fantastic result for Supermarine Ladies this weekend, with 7 tries and 2 conversions to add to their record sheet.
Marine stamped their authority on the game against the Bristol team early on in the first half, slotting away 5 tries, 2 conversions and securing a bonus point by the half time whistle. It was very much a forwards game this week and the pack were unrivalled in their strength and ability to wheel the scrum and make metres up the pitch with their driving.
The backline were also impatient to impose themselves on the game, and good hands allowed some fast-paced running and strong breaks through game line.
There were 2 debut tries for Supermarine this weekend, with Libbie Jones going over the line in the first half, and Catherine Twomey scoring her first try in her first ever rugby game early on in the second.
Claire Chard scored two tries at number 8 and Sarah-Jane Allen added to the score sheet with a try for the Props!
Two tries also came from full back Hayley Coles, both being converted by Natalie Williams.

Bideford vs Supermarine 5-22
Marine faced strong opposition this week and were prevented from getting their third bonus point in a row by the Devonshire team this Sunday.
It was a long journey down to Bideford Town, and the travelling showed in a slow first half by Marine. Claire Chard managed to go over the line for the forwards 20 minutes into the game, but Bideford responded shortly afterwards making the score 5 v 5.
Marine responded to this positively and Natalie Williams was able to put another score on the board shortly before half time giving Marine much needed confidence going into the second half.
The last 40 minutes proved to be a forwards game and the pack were once again able to stay strong under a lot of pressure to go over the line for a third try, with a welcome return to the try scorer, Jess Bunce.
The backs were also able to stamp their authority on the game with a final try by Jai Cunningham just before the final whistle.
This wasn’t Marine’s strongest performance, but they will be able to take away some positive passages of play, and build upon these in time for their next league game in two weeks time

Supermarine Ladies vs Old Redcliffians49-0
This was Supermaines first game for 2 months due to games being cancelled because of bad weather. Supermarine didn't show any lack of form considering the cold windy conditions as they went on to win comfortably. Old Reds did have a 20 min spell of pressure in the first half when a succession of penalty's against supermarine meant old reds were nearing the try line. but excellent defending and rucking meant this period did last long. There was also the welcomed return of some key injured players. Shona Watt, Sammy Way who both had excellent games and Steph watts who came on in the second half.
Captain Zoe Said "excellent support play by all players! played well defensively.
Coach Pablo " some very good spells of rugby, Excellent support tries a promising start back after such a long break. A unacceptable penalty count need work on.

Supermarine efforts paid off when centre Alisa Cullen broke through to score the first of the game, with a Williams conversion.
Marine kept up the pressure and managed a second try by Alisa despite tremendous efforts by the opposition.

Supermarine Ladies v Salisbury Sabres
Salisbury Sabres Ladies had to concede on Sunday after arriving at Supermarine RFC short of 2 front row forwards. Supermarine took the points for the walkover but it meant they were not able to gain crucial bonus points.
It was decided to play a 'friendly', with Salisbury trying out 2 new props. Supermarine were the stronger team and managed to run at least 8 tries past the visitors with a number of conversions.
A number of Salisbury injuries saw Marine donating 3 subs to the opposition. However, at half time they decided to call it a day.
This leaves Supermarine still battling it out with Redruth for the top of the table.
